Prayer Requests
You're
Invited to Pray!
1. Please
pray for the Pastors Prayer Gathering Please
intercede for the pastors who are gathering at Salem Baptist Church (Eau
Claire, WI) to pray on Sept 15-16.
2. Please pray for
GLBC's Children's Ministry leaders across the district
Many Sunday School teachers and other leaders invest more
than Sundays into the kids they care for. Pray that God will provide
ample patience and love for the children and families they serve. May these
children come to know Christ at an early age and seek to follow Him.
3. Please
pray for God's financial blessing on our churches and district.
May we dare to follow Christ in new ways with our time and
resources. May He call us by name and show us clearly what He wants to do
in our communities for His sake.
4. Please pray for
our Chaplains that serve in Prisons, Armed Forces, and in Workplaces across
our district. These men and women serve
their country as they minister for their King. Ask for God's wisdom and
protection for these hard working servants.
We sincerely thank
you for your prayers. Let us know how we can pray for you, too.

Dear
Ministry Partners,
May God bless you and make you fruitful this Fall! This month, we're
focusing on events and resources that will help you in life and
ministry. May God
bless you with courage, stamina and joy!
Let
us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a
harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us
do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of
believers.
Galatians
6:9-10

From the Desk of Dr. Dwight
Perry
A Great Sign of Unity
A recent headline in the USA Today read "A
Great Sign of Unity." This headline was attempting to capture
the environment surrounding the Democratic Convention where during the
role call vote the State of New York, led by Senator Hillary Rodham
Clinton, asked the convention to suspend the roll call process and by
acclamation declare Senator Barack Obama the nominee for President of the
Democratic Party.
On a human level, even though this headline sought to capture a sense of
the outward unity that was displayed at the Democratic Convention, that
display of unity was far short of what biblical unity is. Paul, when
writing to the saints at Ephesus in Ephesians four, would proclaim this:
"be diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
Biblical unity between two believers is not something that we have to try
to attain.
Because of our relationship in Christ and our bond with Him as brothers
and sisters, unity is already ours. Our role in preserving the unity that
Paul was referring to has nothing to do with trying to get or gain it,
but to work to experience what we already have in Christ.
Unfortunately, in my many years of ministry I have seen the principle of
biblical unity distorted. People who have the power of the Holy Spirit
dwelling within them have distorted biblical unity either through an
attitude of anger, bitterness, a word spoken in gossip, or a critical
spirit that works to only tear down and does not build up. At times I too
have distorted the principle of biblical unity in these very same ways.
The sad thing about this type of disunity is that it not only affects our
fellowship with one another but it also affects our witness to a lost and
dying world that desperately needs Christ.
In Jesus' last few hours before He would go to the cross to pay for our
sins said these words in John 17:22-23 "The glory which You have
given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one;
I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the
world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved
Me."
Notice what Jesus said in this passage: our ability to communicate the
gospel so that God can transform lives is directly related to the witness
of our relationships with one another.
I have been reading a fabulous book on this subject entitled The Peace
Maker by Ken Sande. This book was recommended to me by one of our
Women's Ministry Area Directors, Mrs. Sam Nyland. It is an excellent
resource for any of us who might find ourselves in conflict whether it be
on our jobs, our home, or in the church. The overall thesis of the book
revolves around this key question. How can I please and honor God in this
situation?
In the introduction of the book (pg. 20), Sande sums up all that he
sought to say in the opening section with these words. "Focusing
on God is the key to constructively resolving conflict. When we remember
His mercy and draw on His strength, we are almost always able to see
things more clearly and respond to conflict more wisely. In doing
so, we are able to find healthier solutions to our problems. At the same
time, we can show others that there really is a God and that He delights
in helping us do things we never could do on our own."
In John 13:34-35 we find these words "A new
commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have
loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that
you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
This month, let's ask God to help us respond appropriately to
those in our midst; not only for their sake, but for the sake of His
Glory and His Kingdom.
God bless,
Dr. Dwight Perry
GLBC District Executive Minister

Negotiating Church Conflict
Join us for GLBC's Fall 2008 Area Meetings
This Fall, resolve to become a more effective church
family!
1. Conflict in Church?
Yes, unfortunately, just like any family, church families also go through
times of conflict and sometimes hurt one another. Whether it's intentional
or not, the pain is real and can cause damage if not handled properly. This
free event is a preview of the specialized training for Pastors and Boards
offered in Spring 2009 from GLBC's Dr. Dwight Perry (District Executive
Minister) and Dr. Stu Dix (Assoc. DEM - Mobilization)! These meetings
are for pastors and other church leaders who'd like to learn healthy ways
to deal with conflict. Discover practical ways to get through church
conflict and become a healthier church family!
2. Invest significant time interceding together in a Concert
of Prayer.
3. Hear more about the GLBC's Women's Speaker Team
