For Your Quiet Time

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. ---Romans 12:9-12

Prayer Requests

openhandsinprayer

Thanks for remembering to pray!

1. Please pray our churches in the midst of their busy Fall season.
Let's join together in prayer for our church leaders as they reach out to their communities for Christ.

2. Please pray for the GLBC Annual Meeting on October 24-25
May God be praised as we gather to worship, hear reports, and look forward to the future God has for us.

3. Please pray for families and churches hit by the downturn in the economy
We know that God is in control of family, church and district budgets.  Please pray that He will give wisdom as we all generously steward what he provides.

We sincerely thank you for your prayers.  Let us know how we can pray for you, too.

Dear Ministry Partners,

We hope your fall season is bringing a fruitful harvest.  Let's remember to lift up our spiritual leaders in prayer, as Apostle Paul asked the Ephesian believers to pray for him.

A Prayer for Every Day
Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

--- Ephesians 6:19-20

From the Desk of Kris Wood

bengbwLiving Beyond a Script

I've discovered that we have "goodbye scripts" at our house.  See if this sounds familiar to you.  (It's usually bellowed from the stairway.)

"I'm leaving now."
"Ok, have a good day. Be safe, love you."
"Ok. You too. Love you, too."

It's become part of the rhythm of the day and those choices have become a traditional cadence as we start the day.  Now and again, I like to "change it up".

As my son Bryan was getting up in the morning recently, I told him that I loved him.  "Thanks. He said. "Are you going somewhere?"

We laughed because we recognized we "always say that", but not "then".

I've been thinking about that as it relates to praying.  So often, I say the same thing and it sometimes feels like a script.

This is one of the reasons I can see God calling me to "change it up" a bit.

As I am learning more about the Great Commission (Matthew 28), I am prompted to focus diligently in prayer and giving as part of my regular plan.
He is challenging me to be more intentional and it's breathing fresh wind in my sails. Maybe you'd like to join me in this experiment. The key is to be specific in naming the areas God brings to mind.

Great Commission Praying: Intentional ~ Relational ~ Missional
oLocally: prayer for my pastor and church leaders as we reach our community for Christ
o Regionally: prayer for GLBC churches and pastors and church planters
o Nationally/Internationally: prayer for national leaders; missionaries

Great Commission Giving: Intentional ~ Relational ~ Missional
o Locally: stirring families to give generously to churches and communities
o Regionally: inspiring generous giving to district endeavors
o Nationally/Internationally:cultivating generous giving and interest in a variety of mission opportunities.

I am curious to see what will happen as I become more focused and specific in prayer and giving.  Join me and let's share what God shows us in the adventure!

Warmly,

Kris Wood

Negotiating Church Conflict
Join us for GLBC's Fall 2008 Area Meetings

This Fall, resolve to become a more effective church family!

1. Conflict in Church? Yes, unfortunately, just like any family, church families also go through times of conflict and sometimes hurt one another. Whether it's intentional or not, the pain is real and can cause damage if not handled properly. This free event is a preview of the specialized training for Pastors and Boards offered in Spring 2009 from GLBC's Dr. Dwight Perry (District Executive Minister) and Dr. Stu Dix (Assoc. DEM - Mobilization)!  These meetings are for pastors and other church leaders who'd like to learn healthy ways to deal with conflict. Discover practical ways to get passed church conflict and become a healthier church family!

2. Invest significant time interceding together in a Concert of Prayer.

3. Hear more about the GLBC's Women's Speaker Team and the expanding ministries available for your church! (see our website for more information about the speakers' team: Women's Ministry Team
